Coreworks Audio Platform Implemented by NTT Electronics in a Next Generation 4K Video Encoder LSI Chip

Lisbon, Portugal, June 30, 2016 - Coreworks SA, a leading provider of audio codec semiconductor IP, in collaboration with its representative in Japan, Spinnaker Systems Inc., today announced the success for one of their IP cores − 8-stream multi-format audio encoder. Coreworks delivered the audio encoder semiconductor IP core to NTT Electronics for a next generation 4K video encoder LSI chip named "NLC0507AZB-X". With video and audio integration in a single chip, this solution brings undoubted benefits for broadcast equipment suppliers, providing savings in system level development costs, manufacturing costs and time-to-market. The chip has already been manufactured and validated by NTT Electronics. 

Coreworks' solution has been selected by NTT Electronics due to its friendly user interface, outstanding performance, low power consumption and the flexibility for targeting different systems in the broadcasting market. The 8-stream multi-format audio encoder IP core supports the most common audio formats adopted by broadcasting systems, such as MPEG-1/2 Layers I/II, AAC-LC, HE-AAC, and HE-AAC v2, SMPTE302M Pass-through, as well as the recent delay-reduced mode of AAC-ELD. 

The audio platform includes several Coreworks' processors and reconfigurable hardware accelerators specialized in digital signal processing, which provide the flexibility to support different audio formats, still preserving real-time performance at low operating frequencies. The platform can encode up to 8 stereo channel streams in simultaneous, using any combination of audio formats and bitrates. The platform offloads the audio processing from the host CPU, which can be used for other activities. Widely used interfaces, such as AXI, APB, I2S/TDM, SPI and UART, simplify the system level integration of the core. Undoubtedly, this well proven solution will be a good choice for professional A/V system users to considerably reduce system development time and development risk, as well as adding future upgradability to their systems.
