CST Unveils Conjugate Heat Transfer Solver

Darmstadt, Germany and San Francisco, CA, USA, May 24, 2016 -- Computer Simulation Technology (CST) unveils its upcoming Conjugate Heat Transfer (CHT) solver of CST STUDIO SUITE® at IMS 2016, booth #739. The CHT Solver offers accurate thermal and air flow simulations for electromagnetic systems.

Heating is an important consideration for many high-power applications and compact electronic systems.  Excess heat can damage components and cause thermal expansion that detunes sensitive components. Natural convection and fan cooling can significantly affect how a component heats up, which makes understanding the air flow through and around a device a key part of multiphysics design.

The CHT solver, currently being previewed, is a thermal solver that includes computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technology. The CHT solver simultaneously calculates heat transfer and fluid flow around components, and can consider effects such as turbulence and thermal radiation. The CHT Solver will be integrated into CST STUDIO SUITE, allowing the results from electromagnetic simulations to be used as the basis for a thermal simulation, therefore accurately captures full heating effects of a component during its operation.

“The interactions between components and the multiphysics effects at play mean that cooling has to be considered in parallel with the other areas of design,” said Peter Thoma, Managing Director R&D, CST. “The integration of many solvers in CST STUDIO SUITE, including the new CHT solver, makes it possible to analyze performance, system integration, electromagnetic compatibly, thermal effects and other phenomena in a single interface at every stage of the design process.”

The CHT solver will be officially released in CST STUDIO SUITE® 2017. A preview can be seen at the CST IMS booth, #739.

About CST -

Founded in 1992, CST offers the market’s widest range of 3D electromagnetic field simulation tools through a global network of sales and support staff and representatives. CST develops CST STUDIO SUITE, a package of high-performance software for the simulation of electromagnetic fields in all frequency bands, and also sells and supports complementary third-party products. Its success is based on a combination of leading edge technology, a user-friendly interface and knowledgeable support staff. CST’s customers are market leaders in industries as diverse as telecommunications, defense, automotive, electronics and healthcare. Today, the company enjoys a leading position in the high-frequency 3D EM simulation market and employs over 300 sales, development, and support personnel around the world.

CST STUDIO SUITE is the culmination of many years of research and development into the most accurate and efficient computational solutions for electromagnetic designs. From static to optical, and from the nanoscale to the electrically large, CST STUDIO SUITE includes tools for the design, simulation and optimization of a wide range of devices. Analysis is not limited to pure EM, but can also include thermal and mechanical effects and circuit simulation. CST STUDIO SUITE can offer considerable product to market advantages such as shorter development cycles, virtual prototyping before physical trials, and optimization instead of experimentation.
