Conexant SoC Enables World’s Smallest Pocket Photo Smart Mobile Printer

Smart, Mobile Photo Printing Anytime, Anywhere

LAS VEGAS — (BUSINESS WIRE) — January 7, 2014 — Today at the 2014 International CES, Conexant Systems Inc., an audio and imaging innovation leader, showcases the CX92137, a complete controller and image processing solution for digital photo printers. The CX92137 is part of Conexant’s ImagingSmart™ solutions and is deployed in LG Electronics’ Pocket Photo smart mobile printer. LG has leveraged Conexant’s highly-integrated controller and firmware to create the world’s smallest mobile photo printer that features high-quality images anytime, anywhere. With 12 generations of imaging system-on-chip (SoC) expertise, Conexant is the longest-standing merchant imaging solutions provider in the printing industry and a trusted technology supplier for LG.

Most smart phones today offer integrated digital cameras that rival traditional compact cameras in both image quality and ease-of-use. The portability of smart phones has enabled the explosion of digital image sharing, and is also driving the need for high quality image printing on-the-go. LG’s Pocket Photo mobile printer, powered by Conexant’s CX92137, has a lightweight, compact design and is compatible with Android and iOS smart phones as well as laptops. Targeted to consumers of all ages who are looking to enhance their mobile lifestyle, LG’s Pocket Photo printer delivers on the promise of portability, and the technology collaboration with Conexant was an important step in making it possible.

Harnessing the low-power, low-cost and advanced image processing capabilities of Conexant’s CX92137, LG’s Pocket Photo mobile printer uses ZINK® Zero Ink® technology – enabling the printing of digital images without ink/toners cartridges or ribbons. Designed specifically for photo printing applications, Conexant’s chip contains a powerful ARM 32-bit core with a Memory Management Unit (MMU) to deliver the power required for high-speed imaging applications. This SoC incorporates advanced image processing and print engine control technology that controls thermal transfer and dye-sublimation print engines as well as the entire system (including WiFi networking control, motor control, user interface and low power management). The result is a reduction in both system costs and board space.

According to Bill Garvis, general manager for Conexant’s Imaging System Group, “The latest addition to our ImagingSmart line of solutions for photo printing applications, the CX92137, is helping LG change the way people think about printing. Our photo printer controller and image processing SoC is the most integrated solution in the industry. Our SoC and embedded software solution makes high-speed, high-quality image processing possible at a low system cost, and LG has delivered on the promise of no muss, no fuss printing anytime, anywhere.”
