ACCESS, Entropic Partner to Enable U.S. Cable Operators to Meet FCC IP Connectivity Mandate

OBERHAUSEN, Germany and SAN DIEGO, June 6, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --  ACCESS CO., LTD., a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile, beyond-PC and digital TV markets, today announced it is integrating its Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) Technology Component and HTML5 Browser software solution with the latest set-top box (STB) chipset solution from  Entropic, (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in semiconductor solutions for the connected home. This collaboration will enable cable operators to meet the FCC mandate for cable STBs to include an industry-standard IP interface port, and provide DLNA Commercial Video Profile (CVP) functionality.

ACCESS and Entropic cooperated to develop a complete, robust and fully hardware-accelerated Premium Video and HTML5 solution, running on Entropic's EN7588 high-performance STB System-on-a-Chip (SoC) platform. ACCESS' NetFrontTM Living Connect DLNA software combined with its NetFrontTM Browser NX 3.0 HTML5 software enables operators and device manufactures to quickly implement compelling STB-centric services that can support DLNA guidelines on consumer electronic (CE) devices. Additionally, with hardware acceleration, the solution achieved more than six-fold performance improvement by leveragingEntropic's dual-core ARM® Cortex™-A9 processor with NEON™ extension.

ACCESS and Entropic will demonstrate video delivery supporting DLNA Premium Video guidelines at the upcoming Cable Show 2013, in Washington D.C., June 10-12, 2013 (Booth #2807). The demo will showcase HTML5 Remote User Interface (RUI) features of the DLNA Premium Video Guideline.

"Our partnership with Entropic demonstrates ACCESS' ongoing commitment to fulfilling cable operator's needs cost-effectively and efficiently," said Kunihiro Ishiguro, ACCESS' CTO. "The FCC validation of DLNA as a suitable industry standard for cable operators looking to support the FCC mandate for IP connectivity is great news as it plays a significant part in standardizing a common feature set for operators to deliver to their consumers. As a vendor of DLNA Technology Components and HTML5 Browser solutions, we look forward to discussing how our technologies can enable operators to meet the FCC requirement for an IP connectivity standard."

"Integration with ACCESS' NetFront Living Connect and NetFront Browser NX 3.0 solutions enable us to help cable operators meet the evolving specifications of the FCC and DLNA guidelines," said Roger Gregory, vice president, Marketing, Set-top Box Products, Entropic. "The inherent efficiency in our set-top box system-on-a-chip architecture, combined with the superior ARM technologies and its ecosystem, allows Entropic to offer exciting multi-room and multiscreen experiences in IP-Clients and Hybrid set-top boxes."

Entropic's EN7588 is a high-performance STB SoC offering a dual-core 5000 DMIPS ARM Cortex-A9 processor with NEON SIMD extensions. It has incorporated advanced 3D graphics capabilities, an innovative power management system, a multi-stream transport processor, and multi-format A/V decoder engines.
