Proceeds Support Education and Booster Club of Overfelt High School, San Jose SAN JOSE, Calif. – September 13, 2010 – Heart of Technology, a Silicon Valley-based non-profit organization whose mission is to aid local charities in their fundraising efforts, announce an end-of-summer event to be held Saturday, September 18, 12:00-6:00pm, at Calero Ranch Stables in San Jose, CA. Benefiting the Booster Club of Overfelt High School, the family-friendly event features horseback and pony rides, face painting, balloon art, swimming pool, a bounce house for kids and live entertainment. Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be served at the barbecue honoring Bette Ruch-Rose, an Overfelt and Cadence alumnus with strong roots in education. EVENT DETAILS Saturday, September 18, 12:00-6:00pm
Cost: $25 per person; children under 12 are $10. For details and to register: www.heartoftechnology.org/Cookout The money raised will benefit the Booster Club of William C. Overfelt High School, the third oldest high school in the East Side Union High School District of San Jose, serving over 1,500 students. Funding is needed for advanced learning, band and music programs, special interest clubs, athletics and other programs that help get underprivileged students started on a path to an optimistic future. “Given the current state of economy, today’s students are suffering [B1] from a lack of resources for advanced learning and athletics programs that my generation grew up with,” stated Jim Hogan, chairman [B2] of Heart of Technology. “These programs provide opportunities for underprivileged students where there would otherwise be none. As an Overfelt alumnus and San Jose native, I feel it is necessary that we give back to the community in which we live, to make sure we all continue to thrive and prosper and pave the way for a bright future for today’s generation and generations to come.” Entertainment Live entertainment at the event includes the Bay Area's #1 Elvis impersonator Rick Torres, who will perform songs, introduce his pink Cadillac “Elvis Rose” and take memento pictures with guests from 12:30-1:45pm [B3] . There will be two live bands performing with dancing in the barn: Dementia for the death metal fans and The Silverbacks for the classic rock lovers.
