Welcome to the SpringSoft Technology Newsletter. This is a monthly e-mail newsletter distributed to our customers, partners, and friends to provide information on our Novas Verification Enhancement and Laker Custom IC Design technologies. We hope the information in this newsletter will help you to use our products more effectively in your design and verification environments.
Please see the links at the end of this newsletter for subscription information or to provide feedback that will help us improve future editions.
Load Partial Design into Verdi
The Verdi system provides a way to only load partial designs from a compiled library using the command line option -impConf. To use this option, you can create a configuration file which includes one or more scopes to be loaded. For example, the configuration file content could contain the following:
Report Selected Signals in Waveform View
The Verdi system provides a batch mode utility fsdbreport to write out specific signal transitions in a specific time range. However, sometimes it would be more convenient to generate this report from the GUI - since you can view and select signals you would like to report from the intuitive waveform view interactively.
Custom IC Design Tips:
Use Auto Create Wire to Create Wire Segments for Floating Pins
The LakerTM Advanced Design Platform (ADP) unites the full-featured Laker schematic editor, open simulation console and waveform analyzer to provide a complete solution for the rapid design of your analog, mixed-signal, memory, and custom digital IC designs.
DeepChip.com EDA Vendor Survey Results
Part of a recent DeepChip post about Synopsys contained some interesting survey data. As a rebuttal to the monopolistic Synopsys "Primary EDA Vendor" pitch, the question to users was:
"Could you please name (by company) all the different EDA vendors your company uses to get from design algorithms to GDSII tapeout?"
After Synopsys, Cadence and Mentor, we find Denali, Atrenta and Springsoft rising above everyone else, and with a decent margin. They rose above Magma, Apache, FPGA vendors and a host of small EDA hopefuls.
Place-And-Route System Adds OpenAccess Support - Electronic Design
Custom IC layout is a time-consuming, painstaking task that challenges both designers and their layout tools. SpringSoft's custom IC layout system was initially introduced to address the problem of achieving acceptable quality of results and run times. Employing both rule-driven and schematic-driven layout styles, Laker makes it easier to avoid layout-versus-schematic (LVS) errors even as it reduces the time for custom layout.
Power Corrupted SpringSoft Helps Debug Power Issues - IC Design & Verification Journal
Springsoft has added a power module to its Verdi debug system to help address this. Whereas, under normal circumstances, power is there simply to support real signals, now power can be treated as if it's a signal. You can go through the power structure, checking domains to see what's on and off, confirming whether level shifters and isolation are in place, and use assertions just like you would with signals. It knows about the intended power structure by accepting both CPF and UPF formats.
Auto Cell Placement In Mixed Signal IC's - Electronic Product Design
SpringSoft has been busy this spring with a number of introductions to its suite of software automation products. These include a power-aware debug module for the Verdi automated debug system, and the latest release of the Certitude functional qualification system.
Perhaps of most interest are two new products aimed at addressing the increasing challenge of designing custom chips that contain both analogue and digital circuitry.
