  • STM32-comStick speeds up application development for communication and embedded networking products using STM32 Connectivity Line microcontrollers

GENEVA, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a world leader in microcontrollers, has announced the STM32-comStick, a low-cost full-featured development platform in a USB stick that enables fast application design for STM32 Connectivity Line microcontrollers. These microcontrollers, including the STM32F105 and STM32F107 families, entered production in June 2009 adding Ethernet, USB Device/Host/OTG, CAN and audio-class I2S peripherals to the advanced ARM(R) Cortex(TM)-M3 core providing low-power 32-bit processing and real-time behavior for embedded application requiring networking and communications capabilities.

The STM32-comStick includes an unlimited Hitex HiTOP5 IDE/debugger and TASKING C compiler, a built-in GUI allowing control of the application, and a 72MHz STM32F107VC Connectivity Line MCU with 256 KB Flash. Developers can plug the device directly into a PC USB port to evaluate the MCU communication peripherals and build, program and debug their own applications. No external components, software, or power supply are required.

To speed up development, source-code examples demonstrate the microcontroller's Ethernet and USB peripherals. Sample applications include an embedded web server running on a TCP/IP stack, a USB Host mass-storage peripheral, and a file system demonstrating file storage functionality.

The comStick concept provides a convenient and fast way to access microcontroller connectivity features, and is already developer-proven with thousands of sales of the STR9-comStick, introduced in 2007 for ST's ARM9E-based STR9 series. In addition to the STM32-comStick, ST also has the STM32-PerformanceStick for STM32 developers using 72MHz Performance Line devices with up to 512KB on-chip Flash memory.

The STM32-comStick is available with a resale price of $69, directly from ST sales offices and distributors, and from Hitex (www.hitex.com).
