Fairchild Semiconductor’s Four and Eight-Bit Automatic Detection Translators Lower Power Consumption

SAN JOSE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — May 19, 2009 Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) brings designers of cell phones, cameras, laptops, photo frames and portable applications a voltage translator that lowers power consumption, simplifies design and saves board space. The FXLA104 is ideal for designs needing four-bits such as cell phones, while the FXLA108 is an eight-bit translator that is optimal for notebook applications. Both translators have a capacitance of less than 10pf, easing current flow and lowering power consumption. With a built-in automatic direction control, the translator can simply sense and control the direction data should flow without a direction control pin. Removal of this direction control pin simplifies design and eliminates the need to program the General Purpose IO (GPIO) for this control. To accommodate the needs of increasingly compact applications, the FXLA104 is packaged in 1.8mm x 2.6mm UMLP packaging and the FXLA108 is packaged in a space-saving 4.5mm x 2.5mm DQFN packaging. Serving voltages from 1.2 to 3.6 volts, these translation solutions are ideal for the needs of many different portable designs.

This translator enhances Fairchild’s comprehensive portfolio of logic translators. This portfolio includes the industry’s only single-bit, bi-directional voltage translator with guaranteed performance down to 1.1V, the industry’s first dual-supply, bi-directional translator with independent-direction controls, the industry’s first four-bit, low voltage dual supply translator with independent direction controls and the industry’s fastest two-bit auto-direction detection translator.
