Elan Digital Simplifies ZigBee(R) PCMCIA Interface

FAREHAM, UNITED KINGDOM -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Nov 25, 2008 -- Elan Digital Systems has a simplified interface solution for new ZigBee CF card applications.

Their interface chip, VPU16551, has been purpose-built and is a proven solution for the PCMCIA to UART interface needed by new ZigBee-based developments. ZigBee CF card designs pose some serious challenges for the card designer, but the VPU16551 easily solves tight spacing requirements with its tiny footprint of 8x8mm BGA package standing just 1.1 off the PCB which in turn allows for reverse or top side PCB mounting.

Featuring low power, the device has a number of unique features such as support for SD memory. It also has on board EEPROM for the CIS information and uses the standard serial drivers in all major operating systems.

The VPU16551 is an industry standard product which has been incorporated in many high volume wireless modem cards worldwide, simplifying interface design for all CF and 16bit UART-based PCMCIA applications and is readily available from Elan Digital.
