Lisbon, Portugal, June 30, 2016 - Coreworks SA, a leading provider of audio codec semiconductor IP, in collaboration with its representative in Japan, Spinnaker Systems Inc., today announced the success for one of their IP cores − 8-stream multi-format audio encoder. Coreworks delivered the audio encoder semiconductor IP core to NTT Electronics for a next generation 4K video encoder LSI chip named "NLC0507AZB-X". With video and audio integration in a single chip, this solution brings undoubted benefits for broadcast equipment suppliers, providing savings in system level development costs, manufacturing costs and time-to-market. The chip has already been manufactured and validated by NTT Electronics.
Coreworks' solution has been selected by NTT Electronics due to its friendly user interface, outstanding performance, low power consumption and the flexibility for targeting different systems in the broadcasting market. The 8-stream multi-format audio encoder IP core supports the most common audio formats adopted by broadcasting systems, such as MPEG-1/2 Layers I/II, AAC-LC, HE-AAC, and HE-AAC v2, SMPTE302M Pass-through, as well as the recent delay-reduced mode of AAC-ELD.
The audio platform includes several Coreworks' processors and reconfigurable hardware accelerators specialized in digital signal processing, which provide the flexibility to support different audio formats, still preserving real-time performance at low operating frequencies. The platform can encode up to 8 stereo channel streams in simultaneous, using any combination of audio formats and bitrates. The platform offloads the audio processing from the host CPU, which can be used for other activities. Widely used interfaces, such as AXI, APB, I2S/TDM, SPI and UART, simplify the system level integration of the core. Undoubtedly, this well proven solution will be a good choice for professional A/V system users to considerably reduce system development time and development risk, as well as adding future upgradability to their systems.
"This audio platform built with our patented reconfigurable architecture offers an evolutionary solution, while preserving the power efficiency of non-programmable solutions. To support high-end broadcasting streaming and video edition applications, a software update can reorganize the processors and the accelerators for encoding up to 16 stereo audio streams or for encoding very high-end multichannel formats." said Fernando Gonçalves, President and CEO of Coreworks. "Spinnaker Systems’ excellence in technical support strengthens our commitment to provide high quality audio core solutions with excellent local support."
"Coreworks audio encoder IP Core provides excellent features no other vendors’ products offer. Having introduced this audio core, we have successfully developed a high-performance encoder LSI chip for next generation 4K video and audio compression." said the project manager of NTT Electronics. "We really appreciate generous support from Coreworks S.A. and Spinnaker Systems Inc. for the development of our next generation 4K video encoder LSI chip."
"Coreworks’ high quality audio cores ensure our customers, such as NTT Electronics, have reliable solution and support for fast product development" said Toru Katagiri, President of Spinnaker. "We are very glad to have jointly gained a design-win of Coreworks audio encoder IP Core for NTT Electronics’ next generation video SOC chip."
