Low Noise CSAC Combines Atomic Clock Characteristics with Excellent Phase Noise Performance for Military and Industrial Applications.ALISO VIEJO, Calif., May 19, 2014 — (PRNewswire) — Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today announced the availability of the only commercially available Low Noise Chip Scale Atomic Clock (LN CSAC). The LN CSAC enhances the low size, weight, and power (SWaP) of Microsemi's existing CSAC by adding low phase noise performance.
Microsemi's innovation in processing, packaging and manufacturing delivers portable atomic clocks with leading-edge performance and specifications such as low noise, which is a critical parameter in many radar and communication applications for both military and industrial sectors. Based on market data from Dedalus Consulting, the OEM portable atomic clock market is approximately $170 million, and the new LN CSAC product will allow Microsemi to expand its leadership and overall market share in the atomic clock market.
Microsemi's LN CSAC combines the best of oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) and standard CSAC technologies by employing an ultra-low power crystal oscillator within the control loop of the atomic clock to optimize Allan deviation and phase noise.
"LN CSAC leverages the leading edge ultra-low power atomic clock technology developed by Microsemi to produce the only commercially available low power frequency reference and timing module unique within the industry," said Peter Cash, business area director of Microsemi's Space, Defense and Avionics (SDA) business. "This new device produces atomic clock accuracy and crystal oscillator signal purity that can operate using battery power to provide low power signal generation for a broad range of applications. These capabilities operate within the volume of typical ovenized crystal oscillators using a fraction of the power, with features common in sophisticated timing modules."
The LN CSAC, model number 090-01921-000, is currently available for orders. To learn about Microsemi's LN CSAC visit www.microsemi.com/lncsac, or contact Microsemi's sales team at Email Contact. For information about Microsemi's portfolio of timing products, visit www.microsemi.com/time.
Microsemi's Cash is presenting at the IEEE International Frequency Control Symposium in Taipei, Taiwan from May 19-22, 2014. He is addressing advances in LN CSAC technology and sharing his industry expertise at the conference. For more information, visit www.ifcs2014.org.
About LN CSAC
The LN CSAC is the newest addition to Microsemi's Quantum™ family of atomic clocks, which are differentiated by industry-leading SWaP consumption. Its phase noise performance of -87 decibels relative to the carrier per hertz (dBc/Hz) at a 1 Hz offset and a noise floor of -155 dBc comes with a power consumption of only 240 milliwatts. The Allan deviation at 1 second improves to less than 2E-11. LN CSAC maintains the timing subsystem capabilities of CSAC, which include one pulse per second (PPS) steering and distribution, digital frequency control, comprehensive telemetry and diagnostics, and time of day (TOD) generation.
