New SoCs to combine Imagination’s PowerVR GPUs and MIPS CPUs
Sunnyvale, CA – 28th August, 2013 – Imagination Technologies (IMG.L), a leading multimedia, processor, communications and cloud technologies company, and Ineda Systems, a developer of low-power system on chip (SoC) technology for use in both consumer and enterprise applications, are revealing details of Ineda’s soon-to-be-released Wearable Processor Unit (WPU) SoCs that unite various combinations of Imagination IP cores in their ultra-low power design.
With Imagination’s market-leading PowerVR graphics processors (GPUs) and efficient MIPS Aptiv CPUs including the high-performance, compact microAptiv cores with DSP capability, Ineda is developing a new class of ultra low-power wearable processor silicon products that will be applicable to a multitude of devices such as smart watches, health and fitness devices and more.
Ineda CEO Dasaradha Gude says: “In designing its leading-edge technology for wearables and other emerging portable applications, Ineda’s key focus is on combining the right mix of technically superior technologies. Imagination’s IP cores provide the ideal combination of features and performance, and importantly, industry-leading power and energy efficiency. As such, Ineda’s silicon will be the first in the world to truly achieve power usage within the envelope required by wearable devices.”
Imagination US President Krishna Yarlagadda says: “Wearable electronics and devices for the Internet of Things (IoT) are an open field for innovation, and we are delighted that Imagination’s IP plays such a vital role in Ineda’s innovative SoCs for these applications. With our combination of low-power, feature-rich technologies encompassing CPU, graphics, video, vision, communications, cloud and beyond, Imagination is uniquely positioned to address these markets.”
Ineda’s approach involves vertical engineering of the wearable device including silicon, system, software, application ecosystem. In addition, the company will enable the ecosystem with applications programming interfaces (APIs) and the application development framework.
