Khalifa University will submit prototype circuits to CMP for manufacturing
Abu Dhabi, UAE, Grenoble, France and Austin, USA, 4 June, 2013 -- Khalifa University announced today at DAC, the Design Automation Conference, Austin USA, that it has signed an agreement with Circuits Multi Projets (CMP), a French based Service Unit that supplies integrated circuits and micro-electromechanical systems for use in various electronics.
According to the agreement Khalifa University will collect projects from universities, research laboratories and companies based in the UAE and send them to CMP for manufacturing. These projects will include prototypes for new integrated circuits and MEMS. Khalifa University will also be able to submit designs by its students and faculty for manufacturing.
CMP will offer manufacturing in a variety of processes, including integrated circuits and MEMS. These processes include very advanced processes provided by STMicroelectronics. Specifically, very advanced processes include 28nm CMOS, bulk and FDSOI, as well as 65 nm and 130 nm on various options, HV and SiGe. STMicroelectronics also provide manufacturing of MEMS on the THELMA process. Other providers for CMP include AMS for various CMOS and BiCMOS processes, TEZZARON for 3D projects, and TRIQUINT for pHEMT GaAs.
The agreement follows the launch of the new ATIC-SRC Center of Excellence for Energy Efficient Electronic Systems (ACE4S), which is funded by the Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC) and the Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) and jointly hosted by Khalifa University and the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology. The center will focus on energy efficient devices with research in energy harvesting, power management, sensor technologies and wireless communications networks.
"We are pleased to be working with CMP to develop new technology," said Dr. Mohammed Ismail Elnagger,Director of the Semiconductor Research Center, and Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Khalifa University. "This agreement will help drive innovation in next-generation electronic systems ranging in applications from smart phones to medical devices. We look forward to working with CMP towards creating a world class technology hub in semiconductor research here in the UAE. This agreement demonstrates Khalifa University's dedication to promoting research and innovation in the UAE."
Jean-Christophe Crebier, Director of CMP, and Bernard Courtois Advisor at CMP, said "CMP is proud to have reached an agreement with Khalifa University to serve UAE based institutions. Abu Dhabi and the other Emirates are a fast growing area for electronics in general. It is hoped that the number of projects in this area will be boosted by this agreement, especially on very promising processes like FDSOI for example."
About Khalifa University
Khalifa University was established in February 2007 by a decree issued by the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to complement Abu Dhabi's 2030 vision, which aims to build a knowledge-based economy that effectively contributes to the development of the UAE.
Khalifa University's main campus is located in Abu Dhabi, while it operates another campus in Sharjah. Presently, Khalifa University offers bachelor's degrees in Computer (with optional concentration in Software Systems), Communication, Electrical and Electronic (with optional concentration in Power Systems), Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Industrial and Systems, and Biomedical Engineering, Master's degrees in Electrical & Computer Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Information Security and International and Civil Security, in addition to a Doctorate degree program in Engineering with the option to specialize in Mechanical, Aerospace, Nuclear, Biomedical, Electrical & Computer, or Robotics Engineering.
CMP is a broker in ICs and MEMS for prototyping and low volume production. Circuits are fabricated for Universities, Research Laboratories and Industrial Companies. Advanced industrial technologies are available in CMOS, BiCMOS, SiGe BiCMOS, High Voltage, FD-SOI down to 20nm, pHEMT GaAs, and MEMS etc. CMP distributes and supports several CAD software tools for both Industrial Companies and Universities. Since 1981, more than 1000 Institutions from 70 countries have been served, more than 6,000 projects have been prototyped through 700 runs, and 60 different technologies have been interfaced.
