SolidWorks Users Gain Access to High Level Nastran Analysis and Simulation

NEi Works was originally developed to provide Nastran computer-aided-engineering (CAE) in a completely familiar working environment for SolidWorks users. Embedding NEi Works in SolidWorks accomplished that and eliminated the learning curve and any compatibility issues typically introduced by CAE software with different and proprietary platforms. Analyses Added to NEi Works 2013 for SolidWorks

  • NEi Explicit - For engineers who need to simulate impacts involving high speeds, severe deformation, self-contact, and material deletion, this explicit FEA solver can be added to NEi Works. Examples of applications include: analysis of vehicle collisions, projectile penetration, metal forming, and bird strike tests for aircraft.
  • Vibration and Multi-axial Static Fatigue - Parts subjected to dynamic loads will undergo mechanical failure given a sufficient number of cycles. Adding the Fatigue module to NEi Works enables virtual durability testing of parts under various loading conditions and cycles to determine suitability for service.
  • Random Response - This feature has been added to NEi Works' existing Linear and Nonlinear Transient and Frequency Response to provide the full complement of dynamic analysis capabilities.
  • Progressive Ply Failure Analysis (PPFA) - NEi Works has a strong portfolio of composite tools which includes items like 2D shell and 3D layered solid elements, correlation of ply level stress and failure index results, and advanced failure criteria like Puck and NASA Langley LaRC02. The addition of PPFA further strengthens this position by giving SolidWorks designers the ability to optimize composite parts for high performance applications. By simulating the structural behavior beyond first ply failure and providing insight into the residual strength and behavior up to ultimate failure, engineers have the opportunity to achieve further improvements in key design objectives like weight reduction.
