May 2013 - DAC Edition

70% Growth, DAC Fun and Verification, New Sign-off Flow and Channels

Real Intent is reporting 70% business growth in our latest press announcement and this has led to the expansion of our sales channel.  We have a new combined RTL sign-off flow for CDC and DFT which will be demonstrated at DAC. And one of our technologists is giving a DAC poster presentation. Details for all of this and more fun stuff are below.

Thoughts From Prakash Narain, President and CEO…

Last time we discussed a new verification paradigm – the growing symbiotic relationship between design and verification that makes it hard to tell where one leaves off and the other one begins – and the nice relationship between structural and formal evident in our products. In this issue we explore another key paradigm for managing billion-transistor SoC verification complexity – application-based verification. With all major mobile companies now working from the same reference designs with well-defined basic blocks, the pain point has shifted from how much goes into the chip to what goes into it. And the integration challenge has moved to the interfaces between the components, and what’s on top of them. Application-based verification drives technologists toward complete solutions and closure for the problem as a whole, rather than focusing on traditional simulation or assertion-based verification. In this new approach, designers partition the verification process according to various verification concerns, resulting in implicit specification for the narrow verification problem at hand. Doing that leads to clearer analysis and scope, and finer resolution in debug. Consider, for example, verification of clock domain crossings – a challenge which our Meridian CDC solution tackles. It’s a sign-off requirement which necessitates a solutions-based approach instead of traditional verification techniques. Static verification-based sign-off is an important approach that we address, and a key enabler for managing SoC complexity.

We had a chance to talk with you at several recent trade-shows and EDA user group events. I look forward to welcoming you at DAC in Austin, Texas, June 3-5, for more great conversation and fun in Booth #1031. Fun and Verification at the 50th DAC in Austin, TX

Head straight down the main aisle and you’ll find us on the left in Booth #1031 – as Gary Smith points out in his “WHAT TO SEE @ DAC 2013” list, in the category “RTL Sign-Off Tools.” Here you’ll see demos of our two product families on John Cooley’s Cheesy Must See List – Ascent for early functional verification before synthesis, and Meridian for advanced sign-off verification that’s not possible with simulation or static timing analysis. They support complex and critical applications, some of which are full-chip designs larger than 500-million gates. You’ll also hear about our new RTL flows with DeFacTo and Calypto. Then step into our photo booth, enhance your “look” with bonafide Texas-style accessories, and mug for the camera in front of the Austin skyline for a really cool instant souvenir of your DAC 50th Anniversary experience – three fabulous personalized photos. But that’s only the beginning…
•    See Real Intent and DeFacTo jointly demonstrate their new combined RTL sign-off flow for      CDC and DFT.
•    See the User Track presentation by senior FAE Vaishnav Gorur, Lending a ‘Formal’ Hand to      CDC Verification: A Case Study of Non-Intuitive Failure Signatures . It shows how failure      signatures can be used to improve design quality and bolster the verification suite and even      make designs future-proof. It is shown at Session 3 Designer Track, #3.39 on Tuesday, June 4,      noon-1:30 p.m. in Hall 5.
•    And for an unforgettable evening, get ready to be “Kickin’ it up in Austin” on Monday, June      3rd at the 50th Anniversary of DAC celebration party! Sponsored by Real Intent, it will be held      at the world-famous Austin City Limits, and features 9-time Grammy award-winning western      swing band Asleep at the Wheel , plus Vista Roads , and Texas Terraplanes. Be sure to visit the      Real Intent photo booth at the show for your memory of how you kicked-it-up in Austin.

New Combined RTL Sign-off Flow for CDC and DFT

Real Intent has collaborated with DeFacTo Technologies to deliver a joint RTL sign-off flow for both CDC and DFT that accelerates sign-off. This best-in-class solution for SoC design teams worldwide integrates DeFacTo's SIGNOFF solution with our Meridian CDC clock domain crossing solution. The companies will demonstrate the joint flow in DeFacTo’s booth ( #409 ) and Real Intent’s booth ( #1031 ) at the Design Automation Conference, in Austin, Texas.  Click here to read the announcement details.

New Central Region Office, New Distributors in Taiwan and Israel

Thanks to the growing interest that you, our customers worldwide, have shown in Real Intent’s advanced verification solutions, we are expanding rapidly and expect to double our business this year. To better serve you, we have opened a new Central U.S. sales and support office in Austin, Texas, headed by 30-year semiconductor/EDA industry veteran Charles “Chad” Chadwell for sales support, and James Moore for technical support, whose experience spans more than a decade.

Supporting northwest North America, Upinder Walia joined Real Intent this spring as Executive Account Manager including Silicon Valley. His renowned track record of success in the EDA industry includes years at SpringSoft, Novas, Cadence and Sun Microsystems, among others.

Our newest distribution partner – Grand Technology, Inc., also known as GTI – adds local sales and support expertise in Taiwan. Founded in 1996, Grand Technology Inc. is a leading technology supplier there, representing numerous high-tech firms.  In Israel, TBS Technologies and its founder, Moty Hermann now distribute our products.  This will bring significant time-to-market and productivity benefits to the aggressive designs we see in Israel.

With these additions, Real Intent now offers full regional support in Europe, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and North America.
