ProximusDA Announces ProximusRealizer™ for Hardware and Software System-on-Chip Development

Distributed execution of software and silicon virtual prototypes allows both HW and SW engineers to solve complex SOC architecture design and verification challenges

SAN FRANCISCO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 4, 2012 — At DAC 2012, ProximusDA GmbH, developer of the electronic systems design environment that goes from specification level to final design stages, will be demonstrating ProximusRealizer™, a system level product that simplifies and accelerates the design and verification of complex systems-on-chip (SOCs). ProximusRealizer helps leading system and semiconductor companies to design heterogeneous multiprocessor SOC hardware and software architectures, verify the hardware implementations, and validate distributed embedded software stacks.

The next generations of SOCs require critical attention to the development of the embedded software. The design of heterogeneous multi-core architecture demands massive computing resources to fuel execution of both software virtual prototypes (SWVPs), and, even more demanding, silicon virtual prototypes (SVPs).

ProximusDA has developed a technology to enable the distribution and execution of complex applications on multiple cores and multiple GPUs. The foundation of this technology relies on formal and explicit system-level communication modeling at the transaction level throughout the complete system.

ProximusRealizer leverages this technology to compile distributed SWVPs as well as distributed SVPs from system-level specifications. The resulting virtual prototypes can then take advantage of advanced and multiple 64-core servers. ProximusRealizer breaks through the intrinsic limitations of current solutions based on single processor execution and offers a new level of performance that enables SOC makers to remain competitive by decreasing overall skyrocketing SOC verification costs.

ProximusRealizer helps hardware and software architects, hardware designers, and embedded software engineers to collaborate by allowing sharing of successive refinements of the system- level abstraction. Product usage can vary according to the user’s intent. The first stage allows system architects to capture hierarchical executable system functional specifications, develop use cases, execute, profile, and validate system level hardware and software architectures. At the second stage, ProximusRealizer generates the distributed SWVP to allow the embedded software engineers to start early software development. The distributed nature of the execution delivers the extremely high level of performance required by the software development community. The third stage is for hardware designers and verification engineers, with the generation of fast, distributed, transaction-level virtual platforms (VPs) compatible with SystemC TLM2 and open virtualplatform (OVP) models.
