Timing signoff using PrimeTime has traditionally been done with multiple runs: one per process
corner and design mode. In modern process geometries, the number of runs and overall signoff
runtimes have skyrocketed, increasing turnaround time and making it difficult to create ECOs to
fix timing violations in one mode without introducing new violations in other modes or corners.
A new PrimeTime feature, Distributed Multi-Scenario Analysis (DMSA), has helped cut signoff
turnaround time and has been extremely useful for implementing timing ECOs. This paper will
present and explore the benefits of DMSA as used in taping out a large multi-mode chip.
