Recent years have seen a rapid rise in the use of geo-referenced digital ortho-photography for extracting 2D geospatial data. A significant limitation of digital ortho-photography is the fact that it does not provide elevation data. For the past three years the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District Three Planning Department has been exploring digital 3D stereo imagery for use in a broad range of transportation related tasks. FDOT uses 3D stereo datasets called RoadWay3D.
