Our commercial server mainboard designs have experienced increasing instances of switching voltage regulator (SVR) noise coupling into sensitive signals. We have seen noise couple from SVR fills to separate area fills and eventually into signals. This leads to system hangs and unreliable booting, requiring huge debug time and effort to address. This problem is becoming more prevalent as electronic designs go “Green” and SVRs increase switching speeds to become more and more efficient.
