Yield management is a key business differentiator for an industry leading foundry. Increasingly, the designers of semiconductor devices are being brought into the yield equation as COT design tools incorporate more process-specific data into the tools’ databases. Now, as we move down the technology curve, the traditional power and performance tradeoffs available to designers will have additional impacts on manufacturing yield. The challenge, then, is to collaboratively develop COT tools that integrate foundry process knowledge and design-for-manufacturability rules in an automated fashion that ensures designers will meet their market windows.
