It was the high cost and long lead times for building In-Circuit Test (ICT) equipment that sent Mark Cooper, senior test engineer at Fujitsu, looking for circuit board testing alternatives. Production volumes of the company’s FLASHWAVE 4100 high-speed optical communications access device were substantial, but not enough to justify the $25,000 to $40,000 cost of an ICT test fixture and program for each type of board that required testing.
