I had the opportunity to attend the Social Media WorldForum at the Convention Center in Santa Clara, California this week. The two day event allowed attendees to participate in one hour workshops and listen to various panels from companies such as Say It Social, Technorati, Q Interactive, Shozu and Rock You. There were also presentations from companies such as Facebook, MetaCafe and Peanut Labs Media. Some of these companies I had heard of while others were new to me.
Many of the social media sites are free to use. This has helped in growing the number of users for many of the sites out there. Paid advertising has helped to fund these sites and advertising sales are expected to grow in the next year. Members to these sites are joining because they want to be apart of a network. Once you’re in a network, you are able to receive information based on interests, post content, review suggestions from friends and colleagues, watch videos or play games even though you will not admit you are a “gamer”.
Each organization no matter what the industry may be, is reaching out to their customers or clients through social media. These websites are easily accessible on all types of portable applications and computers. How many social media widgets did you last see on an article you read online or discovered you can follow a brand or company employee via Twitter? We want information in realtime and as accurate as possible. As new features and sites are developed by computer programmers and web developers, we’ll continue to try new things to get valuable information or find new ways of getting entertained.
EDACafe can be followed through Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
