I am pleased to announce a refreshing of our EDA-Careers website to kick off near.  The release date is Jan1, 2017 and we will have several new additions that include my EDA-Careers Corner and More column and my videos, present and past.  The updated site will also include a jobs’ page with current opportunities and a clean fresh look.  Hope you visit and let us know what you think.

What an interesting 2016 and it culminated with our first BIG outside acquisition.  Yeah, there was APACHE to ANSYS but they were ANSOFT, an EDA company.  There was Carbon to ARM but that was not a game changer but Mentor to Siemens, that is a first and maybe even a new beginning as to what is to come.

Landing The Interview Is About More Than Your Technical Skills…Must Read Advice For Anyone Interviewing

Friday, April 15th, 2016

I have placed more candidates than I can count and have additionally prepared more candidates for their interviews, than I have yelled at my kids… (OK I admit to stretching there a bit).  I cannot begin to tell you how many candidates make the most elementary mistakes during their first interview(s), serving to eliminate themselves before they have even had a chance to prove their worthiness.  It is certainly great to possess the needed technical skills for the position but it is even greater to know how to showcase those skills, to give you the best shot at acing the interview.

Here are a few of my more basic tips and what I always tell my candidates before they interview. I explain to them that the simplest, most logical goal is to have one single objective…and that is to get through the 1st interview successfully. Since most first interviews are phone screens, the discussions can vary depending on the company and the person doing the interviewing.

My headline says that finding the right match is incredibly difficult and I assure you it is for both sides. Having a properly structured resume with the right KEYWORDS will make a significant difference in whether or not your resume is even ever looked at. You must have the right elements in your resume for it to show up in a structured search for specific skill-sets. Let’s start with what is important in a resume and yes I know this is a continuation of my last column but there are points that must be pounded home and a few I did not address previously.

More Great News for EDA…MUST HAVE Fundamentals To A Great Resume…Key Word Information Is Critical…

Friday, August 9th, 2013

The EDA Consortium released 1st quarter results for 2013 and the news continues to be not only encouraging but also significant. EDA revenues increased 8.1 percent from the first quarter of last year to $1.67 billion. The four-quarter moving average increased by 7 percent with total revenue for the last four quarters at $6.66 billion, not bad at all.

When you see strong growth in the Services sector, this suggests business is strong and companies need to look elsewhere because internal needs cannot meet the demand timely and hiring outside is the fastest, and in many cases, the most reasonable solution.  This also suggests that hiring is still robust (as I can certainly attest to) and that the hiring pool continues to diminish, making it harder and harder for companies to find good people.  Either way this is great for EDA as the more people working, the more tools needed to get the job done.
