Short Desc. : XAUI Interface
Overview :
The XAUI (10 Gigabit Attachment Unit Interface) standard is used in Ethernet applications to extend the reach of XGMII
(10 Gigabit Media Independent Interface) connections to include board-board applications. It is intended for use in
applications such as 10G Ethernet MACs.
It uses four self-clocked serial differential links in each direction to achieve 10 Gbps data throughput using a much lower
pin count than the XGMII. The XAUI Interface implements XGXS (XAUI Extender Sublayer) functions by converting
between the internal XGMII and the external XAUI interfaces.
Features : - Fully Integrated XAUI interface solution
- Conforms to IEEE 802.3ae (XAUI Extender Sublayer)
- Supports transmission rates of 12 Gbps, date rate of 10 Gbps
- Integrated IO cells, PLL and SerDes functions
- Shared PLL architecture to reduce jitter and power consumption
- Performs 8b/10b encoding/decoding
- Aligns received 10bit data on each lane to code group boundaries
- Aligns incoming lanes
- Lane striping/destriping
- Converts XGMII Idle control characters
- Performs link initialisation
- Reports local_fault & remote_fault link status
- Transfers incoming data onto common receiver clock
- Compensates for lane-lane clock skew
- Performs clock division between transceiver interface and core at half rate
- Supports the MII management register set for status & control
