SAME 2008 Agenda:

SAME 2008 Forum Topic:

Green Electronics: Innovation in the environmental revolution.

October 1, 2008 – 09:35 – 10:20

Keynote Speaker: “50 years of microelectronics”

Dennis BUSS, Chief Scientist Texas Instruments

October 1, 2008 – 10:20 – 11:50

Executive Panel:

Green Electronics: Innovation in the environmental revolution

We know that electronics has positive or negative impacts on the environment (energy consumption, pollution …).

This panel will provide an introduction to the day’s topic by exploring the current state of green technologies.

Speakers, executives from electronics companies will discuss how progress in electronics systems will help preserving the environment: reduce power consumption, improve power production efficiency (solar cells), and improve cars’ gas mileage.

Speakers:

Moderator:     Alain ANGLADE, ADEME

Engineer – ICT, electrical infrastructures and auxiliary equipment for commercial buildings

Energy efficiency markets and services division

-        Jacques Le Berre, Marketing & Sales Director Solid State Lighting, NXP Semiconductors

-         Patrick Leteinturier, Senior Principal Automotive Systems, Infineon Technologies

-         Ted Vucurevich, Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer Advanced Research & Development Cadence Design Systems

-         François Malleus, Business Development Manager High Performances Analog Texas Instruments

-         Marco Landi, President Enerqos

October 1, 2008 – 13:00 – 14:30

Start-ups Panel

SAME 2008 will feature carefully selected high-tech start-ups developing new technologies and applications for the Microelectronics industry.

The panel will inform the audience about innovative products currently being developed and commercialised by these companies coming from all over Europe.

SAME, in the context of the European project “ACHIEVE More” (a project focusing on Start-up coaching), will also provide support in terms of business development for each start-up.

During the last edition, more than 60 individual business meetings were organized for the 6 start-ups that had been selected, confirming the high level of interest from potential customers or partners.

This year SAME will attribute again a price (“The Best Start-up Award) to the start-up that will perform the best presentation during the panel.

The jury will be composed of a mix of industrials, VCs and journalists.

Technical Panel

"The Low Power challenge: Engineering fad or Key Success Factor for the industry?”

The subject of Low Power is not new. It has already been amply debated in technical forums at SAME, DATE, DAC and other trade shows. It is still raising many questions: Where are the leaders in this domain: Giant companies with their army of developers, agile start-ups bringing new paradigms and dynamics to the market? Are we in a linear innovation process or on the verge of a quantum leap?

Low Power is definitely a challenge as the world is getting greener: Green cars, buildings… even electrical power is getting green! We know for sure that ultra low power is a key market differentiator for mobile devices. Governments are thinking of putting taxes on consumer equipment like TVs, set-up boxes, refrigerators, etc. based on their power consumption, including stand-by mode… It looks like Low Power has become critical for product acceptance and competitiveness. Let’s have a look at solutions ahead!

Speakers:

Moderator:     Hugues DAILLIEZ, NXP Semiconductors

-         John Bainbridge, CTO, Silistix

-         Jean-Marie Saint-Paul, European Product Specialist Manager - Design and Verification – Mentor Graphics

-         Vigyan Singhal, President & CEO, Elastix

-         Andre Yakovleff, Expert Architect - Infineon Technologies

October 2, 2008 – 11:15 – 12:15

Special Event "Solar Impulse”

In a world depending on fossil energies, the Solar Impulse project is a paradox, almost a provocation: it aims to have an airplane take off and fly autonomously, day and night, propelled uniquely by solar energy, right round the world without fuel or pollution. An unachievable goal without pushing back the current technological limits in all fields…

In this crazy gamble, a Franco-Swiss team of consultants from the Altran Group is playing a key role in Bertrand Piccard's team.
