PMC-Sierra (Nasdaq: PMCS), a leading provider of communications and storage semiconductor solutions, released “Requirements for Next-Generation Rate-Agile SERDES,” a white paper that outlines and discusses key requirements such as integration, flexibility, signal integrity, performance, and diagnostic features that system designers should consider when selecting a Serializer/De-serializer (SERDES) solution.

Existing and emerging requirements for next-generation rate-agile SERDES designs are forcing system designers to re-examine their SERDES solutions. For example, providers of Metro and Access networks have new requirements for bandwidth and service convergence, with reduced operating expenses and lower power consumption.
