Simtek Pushes Density Envelope and Introduces New 8Mbit nvSRAM Product Family

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—April 29, 2008— Simtek Corporation (NASDAQ:SMTK), the inventor, pioneer, and worlds leading supplier of non-volatile static random access memory (nvSRAM) integrated circuits, today announced they are again pushing nvSRAM densities higher with the introduction of a new 8Mbit family (STK14EE8 and STK14EE16) of nvSRAM products.

Designed for ease of use and unlimited read & write endurance, Simteks STK14EE8 and STK14EE16 will double the top end nvSRAM density less than a year after the company introduced their first 4Mbit products using the same 130nm CMOS process. By expanding the nvSRAM density reach, Simtek now offers an advanced non-volatile fast SRAM solution for applications that previously relied on traditional fast SRAM or expensive battery-backed SRAM solutions.

The 8Mbit density represents another significant milestone on Simteks path to both higher densities and problem-solving configurations in our evolving non-volatile RAM offerings, said Harold Blomquist, CEO and president at Simtek. We believe 8Mbit devices will become the fastest growing nvRAM density market over the next few years. In addition, using two of our nvSRAMs in the X16 configuration as building blocks, we can now easily create 16Mbit memories where a x32 bit bus structure is often preferred. Furthermore, our continued collaboration with Cypress is quickly positioning nvSRAMs as the best fast access SRAM memory solution in the world where non-volatile back-up is demanded at 8Mbit densities and beyond."

Used for decades in military, industrial, medical, automotive, and computer markets at smaller densities, nvSRAM devices now have become the best solution for RAID write journals, robotic axis tracking, and medical data logging, at the larger 4, 8, and 16Mbit sizes. The first applications for Simteks 8Mbit products will include high end network routers, instant on industrial control systems, soft-error event capture in processing centers, and long history data logging and transaction processing equipment in the industrial, medical, aviation, security, and automotive markets.

The 8Mbit devices are offered in a parallel address and data bus format with data widths of both x8 and x16 bits. Read access and Read/Write cycle time grades are 25 and 45ns. The nvSRAMs high-speed SRAM architecture allows unlimited read/write endurance, and its transparent non-volatile backup on any power disruption offers an endurance rating of over 1 million stores.

Key Product Features:

25, 45 ns Read Access and R/W Cycle Time

Unlimited Read/Write SRAM Endurance

Automatic Non-Volatile STORE on Power Loss

Non-Volatile STORE Under Hardware or Software Control

Automatic RECALL to SRAM on Power Up

Unlimited RECALL Cycles

1M STORE Endurance

20-Year Non-Volatile Data Retention

Single 3.0V +20%, -10% Power Supply

Commercial (0 to 70oC) and Industrial (-40 to 85oC) Temperature ranges

The unmatched fast access times and unlimited read/write SRAM performance, combined with high reliability SONOS non-volatile storage, makes nvSRAM the solution of choice for many applications. In addition, nvSRAM devices emulate and replace fast SRAM in high-speed processor systems to reduce wait states and optimize performance, while also delivering the added benefit of backup protection for critical state information.

The x8 bit databus products are available in both the 44-pin thin small outline package II (TSOPII) and 48-pin ball grid array (BGA) packages. The x16 databus products are available in both the 54-pin TSOPII and the 48-pin BGA package.

Pricing & Availability

1,000-unit pricing for the 45ns, commercial grade, x8 bit databus product is $28.00 US. Samples will be available in May and production shipments will begin in the second half of 2008.
