Analogix Semiconductor Announces Industry's First Chip Based on New DisplayPort(TM) Digital Interface Standard

Analogix's ANX9801 Transmitter Enables Easy Upgrade of PC Graphics Cards and Motherboards to Support DisplayPort; Expects to Sample Q1 2006

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Analogix Semiconductor, an innovator in analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, today announced its broad support and the industry's first IC device designed specifically for Video Electronics Standard Association's (VESA) new DisplayPort(TM) standard, a high definition interface specification that enables a wide range of source and display devices for both video and audio to be simply and securely connected.

"As new high dynamic range display systems improve the consumer's viewing experience, they also significantly increase the bandwidth requirement along the entire display processing path," says Ian Chen, vice president of marketing and product management for Analogix Semiconductor. "DisplayPort is the first industry standard to apply the performance and cost advantages of high speed serial links. It removes interconnect bandwidth as a potential chokepoint for display systems while unifying box-to-box and chip-to-chip interfaces to save system design efforts and component costs."

Analogix is supporting DisplayPort as a standard for its family of products addressing both monitor display and digital television markets. The ANX9801 is a DisplayPort transmitter that allows PC graphics card and motherboard vendors to easily upgrade their existing designs to support DisplayPort outputs. The 10.8 Gbps transmitter allows PCs to drive a QSXGA (2560 x 2048) monitor over a single DisplayPort cable. TheANX9801 is housed in a 72-pin QFN package and is priced less than $3.00 in volume. Samples are expected in Q1 2006.

The ANX9081 was part of the successful demonstration of the first functional DisplayPort prototype system presented to VESA in September. Analogix partnered with Genesis Microchip (NASDAQ: GNSS) to develop the prototype.
