Keysight Technologies Participates in Joint Demonstration on Next-Generation 5G Wireless Communication Systems with China Mobile at Mobile World Congress

SANTA ROSA, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — February 27, 2015 — Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) today announced it will participate in a joint demonstration on next-generation 5G wireless communication systems as part of the 5G collaboration project with China Mobile Communications Co. Ltd. Research Institute (CMRI) at Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, Mar. 2-5. China Mobile is the world’s largest mobile network operator and a market leader in 3G/LTE and next-generation wireless network development.

Keysight Technologies and China Mobile Research Institute signed a memorandum of understanding in Beijing in June 2014 to initiate a collaboration focused on developing and providing test and measurement solutions for 5G wireless communication systems. Since June, teams from both companies have been working closely on the 5G collaboration project and have made very good progress.

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Keysight will participate in a demonstration with China Mobile to showcase the progress the two companies have made. The demonstration will focus on large-scale antenna systems based on CMRI’s new SmarTile unit. The SmarTile-based, Invisible Base Station is a new concept and brings additional challenges as compared to the more traditional approach, chief among them is system verification and testing. In this demonstration, the signal quality and multi-channel beam-forming capability of large-scale antenna systems is measured and validated with Keysight’s multi-channel analyzer and 89600 VSA software.

“CMCC Research Institute started its 5G key technologies R&D program in 2011,” said Dr. Chih-Lin I, Chief Scientist of Wireless Technologies, CMCC Research Institute. “We have made substantial progress in various key technology areas and established collaborations with global partners on 5G research. The joint demonstration at the Mobile World Congress this time is from the 5G collaboration between Keysight and CMRI, and is a very important part of the overall 5G roadmap from CMCC. We are very happy with the progress of the collaboration with Keysight so far, and are very confident in the continuous effectiveness of our 5G research together.”

“As the leader in test and measurement, Keysight will continue working on 5G research with CMCC’s research institute and other partners to define and provide test tools for next-generation wireless systems,” said Andy Botka, Keysight vice president and general manager of the Microwave and Communications Division. “Our goal is to demonstrate and strengthen the technical leadership of both companies.”

Keysight’s collaborative work with CMRI on 5G research reflects the strong commitment by Keysight to support industry leaders in the development of next-generation wireless technologies.
